I am a true fan of fashion week(s). I love the hair, the make up, the amazing clothes. You can find me at any given point in the day surfing websites like Style.com and Fashion Gone Rogue. My latest fashion week obsession is the Bumble and Bumble YouTube channel, House of Bumble. They have clips from almost all product collections and now, clips from backstage some of the hottest shows of fashion week! I die. They are especially great because they show how you can recreate some of the looks using products from Bumble and Bumble.

This first video is from the Katya Leonovich show. Our lovely assistants, Maryanne and Joshua, recently went to a local class taught by a Bumble educator to learn how to recreate the look.

I love this next rough updo. It’s prefect for 3rd (or dare I say 4th) day hair. Surf spray, hair powder and some bobbi pins is all it takes!

So guys, this next video might seem a little scary, 3 products and a curling iron?! Well, I have a quick solution to get the same effect. Don’t wash your hair every day! Embrace the bed head, maybe put some grooming creme or brilliantine in your hair in the morning and you’re good to go!

I am red carpet obsessed. I love to see who the actresses are wearing, how they did their hair and all that comes with the glamour! The Golden Globes were a sea of white dresses that could have doubled as modern wedding dresses. I’m happy that the looks were a bit more varied at last week’s SAG Awards. Even though we saw many white dresses (and probably will again on the Oscar’s red carpet) these few ladies really stood out in my book.

Emma Stone is one of personal favorites and at the SAG awards she wore another personal favorite, Alexander McQueen. I’m also quite fond of the vintage throw back. Everything just works in this look! I also love that her red hair is understated enough that you notice, but it isn’t the focus.

Dianna Agron was a wonder in this rich, deep pink hue. It’s not a color everyone can pull off and even if they can, they opt for a more conservative black or red. This dress is age appropriate, flirty, and the right amount of sexy. The fact that she paired it with a messy, twisted, braided up do makes it all the more fun and modern.

I’m so happy that Glenn Close amped it up for the SAG awards. Still not crazy about her hair, a little too casual for me. But it is a far cry from the matronly number she wore at the Golden Globes!

Jessica Lange, what happened! She was smokin’ at the Golden Globes. Exactly what, I think, every woman over 60 should strive for. Naturally sexy, confident and just beautiful. Her dress tucked in all the right places and showed a little skin with an open back. Then… the SAG awards happened and the dress is nice, but a little shapeless and even though it’s sequined it looks rather dowdy.

The biggest risk taker thus far has got to be Rose Bryne. The Bridesmaids actress wore an Elie Saac jumpsuit with a rockin’ bob! She described it as Scarface meets Anna Wintour. I couldn’t agree more and I think it’s perfect!

Image   Chroma Thermique from Kerastase is a must have for any person who has color treated hair and does any amount of heat styling! It gives amazing shine and protects your hair from blow drying, flat ironing and curling. Put a dime size amount on your mid-shaft and ends while your hair is damp, then blow dry! If you’re feeling adventurous, put a small amount on dry hair, just on the ends, and flat iron! The heat brings out the most incredible shine!

Thickening Hairspray from Bumble and Bumble is my all time favorite! If you want to style your hair with body and have it hold, this is the product for you. Great for all hair types, especially finer textures. Spray any amount you want onto damp hair right at the roots for lift. Feeling brave? Spray all through out the hair for all over body and hold! Another great thing is that Thickening Spray doesn’t have to be blow dried to get fuller hair! It’s also a great product for men with thinning hair!

Every new year people make resolutions. Some we keep, some we don’t. A couple of mine are to not get anymore parking tickets and to grow my hair. I’m not sure how serious I am about the growing the hair one (I haven’t had hair longer than my shoulders since I was in the third grade) but I’m definitely going to try to not get a ticket!

Even though we may not be able to commit to our resolutions, one thing you CAN count on is that the Renaissance team is committed to you!  You can rest easy knowing you will get the most amazing service, talent and friendship from us! We have a ton of fun classes lined up to keep us inspired and up on all the latest beauty trends and techniques. We want to thank you for giving us another great year!

Here are some things that you may or may not know that we have going on!

Online booking! You can follow this link here to set up your client profile and book any appointment you wish!

Make up! Jenn and Danielle are our resident make up artists. Not only do we offer special event and wedding services, you can also set up an appointment to LEARN every day make up! Bring in what you have and we can show you some different techniques on how to apply day time makeup that makes you feel your best on a daily basis!

Balayage! Tired of the same highlighted look or thinking about coloring your hair for the first time? Try out balayage! It will give a more natural, sun kissed effect. Balayage is also a much more personalized way of high lighting. Your stylist will paint on select portions of hair, based on the amount of lightness you want and what works your texture and hair cut!

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and can’t wait to see you so we can hear all about your resolutions!

My latest style inspiration has got to be, hands down, Kirsten Dunst. I am choosing to look beyond her messy rehab days and focus on her current glamazon looks. She is currently on the covers of C, Manhattan and Lucky magazines. She has been spotted on best dressed lists all over the place and has some killer red carpet outfits and make up that I am so going to copy this holiday season!

Also, can we talk about how amazing her chin length wavy hair looks?? If anyone is looking for a new style, I highly suggest trying this one!

This December, Renaissance is partnering with our friend and photographer, Sandra Fazzino. When you spend $100 in services and/or products, you’ll get the wonderful gift of almost half off a photo session with Sandra. The package includes a $99 session and a $100 custom print credit, valued at $351.  Sandra has taken beautiful portraits for engagements, weddings, couples and their pets! Winter has set in and the cool weather makes me feel like bringing out my dark side. I start wishing San Francisco had more Gothic churches to wander through.  The rich stained glass windows and the fog make the cold feel so romantic!

When the fog starts to roll in, why not match my outside with the inside! I’m not talking about wearing all black and popping in vampire teeth. I prefer luxurious velvet in deep reds and purples. The holidays are a great time to try these looks out because we’re all getting dressed up for parties and have to layer to fight the cold!

With make up, try a deep purple lipstick with golden brown shadow on the eyes. You can certainly make the look more dramatic by adding in the purple hues on the eyes, like this model here.

I think Tom Ford’s Autumn/Winter ’11 collection does an excellent job of showing how you can take this gothic inspiration and make it less costume and more luxury ensemble.  It comes across as almost 1940′s inspired (which may have been another inspiration for Mr. Ford).

How can we relate this to our hair? Ask your colorist to richen up you color. You don’t necessarily want many colors in the hair, but you want depth and dimension. Maybe try golden blondes, brunettes and reds!

Happy Halloween from Renaissance Salon!

This year we’re celebrating by having a bake sale to raise money for the new Fillmore Women’s Community Clinic. The clinic has been open since 1999 and just opened their new Fillmore branch. Their team of volunteers offers free services to all women and girls in the Bay Area. They have women’s health services, counseling, community outreach and health care training. If you want more info, check out their website!  It’s so exciting to be able to help such a wonderful organization!

On Sunday, from 12-4, we’ll be selling our homemade baked goods and raffling off some killer prizes! (Free blowdry and makeup, a free haircut and gift bags from Bumble&Bumble, Kerestase and Unite! Um, Hello!) We also have an amazing jewelry designer, Katya Luce, coming in. She is from Maui and makes her jewelry from the best gemstones, gold and silver. She is donating 5% of her profits to the Women’s clinic. Take a peek at some of the pieces in the slideshow below!

In honor of halloween, we’ll be doing special face painting! You don’t have to want a full on face like the wonderful client in the slide show, but if you’re up for a pumpkin, ghost or bat stop by!

Bumble&Bumble, and Renaissance, has launched the Straight line. It’s a new line of products and a smoothing treatment! We are so excited! The new Concenstraight treatment is a safer, vegetarian option. It uses gemstone technology ,instead of analdehyde or formaldehyde, to reform your hair. The treatment is said to last up to 30 washes, but has proven to last as long as 60, depending on your hair type. Like the Coppola Keratin treatment, it gets rid of all the frizz and allows for easier blow drying and air drying. Another great plus with this treatment, you can use any shampoo and conditioner you want! Of course, if you stay in the Straight family, the longer your treatment will last!

The Straight Shampoo and Conditioner are equally as amazing. Using the same gemstone technology as the treatment, these babies add even more smoothness to your hair. The two have a cumulative smoothing effect. Meaning, the more you use them the smoother your hair will become. That doesn’t mean wash your hair every day, though!

Clients and stylists alike have been using (and loving) the Straight Blow Dry creme. I have used it on clients that I normally would break out the flat iron for the fly-aways and curlier pieces around the hairline that won’t smooth out for the life of anyone! It makes it so you can easily dry your hair with a paddle brush and minimal round brushing. Even though you can use it to air dry your hair, it is heat activated, so it’s best when you blow dry.

Check out some before and afters, along with some fun pictures from our recent class on the Concenstraight treatment!
